We can be independent when we do ittogether.
At the CIL (Northeast PA Center for Independent Living), we put you first. If you’re looking for services to live independently, you’ve found us.
From home modifications to arranging transportation, you get the support and services you need to stay in your own home. Learn more about our many independent living services.
Since 1988, we’ve put clients first. In fact, we are clients ourselves. That’s because our team includes over 51% of people with disabilities. Many of our team members use our services. We know firsthand what living with a disability is like.
One of the most popular services the CIL provides is Financial Management Services (FMS) through ACES$.
With our participant-directed payroll management solution, you get the freedom to hire your own attendants — while we take care of the details. From cutting checks and making direct deposits to preparing annual W2s, you don’t have to worry about a thing with ACES$ as your FMS provider.
Congratulations to the Graduates of the Transitional Skills Center Culinary Program!

Transitional Skills Center students in our culinary program worked with Lackawanna College Culinary chefs learning to cook and prepare various meals. This after-school program, which provided a total of 120 hours of training, ran four times a week. Graduates earned a college credit upon completion.
All of the eight students who participated enjoyed the program. We capped off their achievements with a dinner and certificate ceremony.
Please note: The CIL and ACES$ are closed for the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day after Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
"We particularly like how the CIL’s professionals have come up with special projects that allow these kids to get involved in the community and become contributing members of society. "
